A fire crackles in the fireplace that separates the bedroom from the lounge in my suite as shadows fall on the surrounding mountains. The peace is absolute. The Sacred Dreams Lodge Urubamba is the ideal accommodation option for families, couples or anyone just wanting to get away from it all for a few days. Located ten minutes by car from the town of Urubamba in the area called Pumahuanca, this Lodge is ideal if you want to have an authentic and restful experience with nature high up in the Andes.
Once part of the Tacllancca Hacienda, Owner Brian with the help of the rest of the Ochoa family created Sacred Dreams as a place of rest and relaxation particularly for families who want to stay a few days, experience the area and enjoy the various activities on offer including pizza making, ceramic classes and visits to nearby trout farms.
Various trails and hikes on foot, horseback and bike are available to the nearby touristic sites of Moray, Maras, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu as well as more off the beaten track excursions to Sillacancha and the thermal baths of Lares. Many guests stay between four and five days (Trust us, once you arrive you won’t want to leave!) using the lodge as a base to explore the Sacred Valley and to relax in the nature that surrounds you on all sides.
The Tacllancca and Kak’a Punku Apus or mountains in Quechua cradle the lodge which itself was designed in keeping with the natural environment. All the materials – wood, stone and adobe are from the locality, giving it a rustic but cozy feel with Andean decorative touches including headboards made from weavings from the textile town of Chinchero and colourful photography from the region taken by Brian.
No flat screen televisions or ipod docks to be found here but there is wifi throughout the lodge and cable TV in the public lounge if you just can’t do without! If you prefer bustling nightlife, loud crowds or five star service, Sacred Dreams probably isn’t the place for you. If however, you want a great, cozy, family-style place to stay for a few days where you can reconnect with nature and yourself in comfort, then Sacred Dreams is definitely an option we highly recommend.

- This is one of our top picks for family friendly hotels in the Sacred Valley. Rooms were designed to accommodate families so you can rent a full house with various adjacent rooms for you and the kids as well as a lounge area and kitchenette. Kitchenettes are basic so are more for making tea and snacks rather than full meals.
- For an added luxury ask for the suite with the private outdoor Jacuzzi and enjoy the incredible starry skies of the valley. Champagne, rose petals and candlelight optional…
- Request a room with a fireplace to take away the chill of a cold Andean evening.
